Mistin's News - April, 2006

I performed with Dale Juner, singing our duet Only Burning Me which is featured on Dale's Album Livin’ While I Learn. The festival was hosted by Frank Ifield and featured artists such as James Blundell, The Sunny Cowgirls and Travis Collins. It was a great afternoon with so much talent showcased. The crowd was a bit quiet which was a shame, but I definitely enjoyed listening to all of the performers. Frank did a great job at putting together an awesome show and I would recommend anyone trying to make it to his next one.

Recording first single: I’m getting things lined up to record my first single to be released Australia wide. I wrote the song just after getting back from Tamworth (lot’s of songwriting inspiration) It’s called ‘Something Real’, so keep an ear out for it. I’ll also be filming a music video to go with the song and I’ll keep you guys updated on its progress. I would love to hear what you think of the song!

Celebrate in the park: On the 12th of March I performed at Celebrate in the Park hosted in Commonwealth Park, Canberra. Good friend Mick Lindsay flew all the way from Toowoomba to perform with me on the main stage. I was also featured in the Canberra Times with the band Night Train, advertising the event.

Among all the other musos, Becky Cole was also there on the day with her posse of very talented musicians to include Trev Warner and Sean Rudd who both taught at the College of Country Music, which I attended this year in January. Unfortunately I had to rush out to Bungendore for another performance late that night and missed out on the last acts and the fireworks…maybe next year I’ll stick around for the whole show. !

Queanbeyan Rodeo: on the 18th of March the Queanbeyan rodeo was in full swing. I showed up in a souped up blue Chevy (courtesy of Dave and Kim Albon) Unfortunately the Chevy wasn’t fully equipped with the Dukes of Hazzard theme horn…haha but I think we still did it with style. The crowd was great and I had a blast.

After the official opening, I sang the national anthem as the sun was setting and a cowgirl April, 2006 rode her horse around the arena flying the Australian flag. After that the party started for all the rodeo goers. I even signed my first Ute! New Web Page: The brand new web page is up and running! Pretty as ever thanks to Terry Phillpot from Eyeball Photographic Web Services. The new site can be found at the same URL

Reviews:

Only Burning Me - A Song of jealousy 2006 style.
A review of Dale Juner’s most recent album featuring a duet with Mistin.
What a surprise package Dale Juner’s new album Livin’ While I Learn is. Twelve great Australian country songs that speaks quality.

The highlight of the album has to be track three, Only Burning Me. Originally on Dale’s 1997 Only Burning Me album, the remake on the Livin’ While I Learn album as a duet with Mistin, takes the song to a new height. Dale, the seasoned performer, does a polished performance evoking the anguish of jealously with the remembrance of a partner’s past love affair with another.

With her assurances that the past is the past and that she is only true to her present lover, Mistin brings a sensitivity which belies the fact that this is her first recorded duet with an established performer.

A truly traditional country song with today’s modern touch and a beautiful blending of harmonies. Michael Crozier OAM AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY Want to know where I’ll be performing this month?
